So you may have noticed that I haven’t been mentioning Paleo eating as much as I was before. There’s a few reasons really,
- I haven’t been following as close to the Paleo diet as I once was.
- I felt like I was being a hypocrate since I didn’t eat 100% Paleo and enjoyed sharing other non-Paleo foods.
- I’ve quite trying to categorize or title the way I eat
The last one is probably the main and most important reason I haven’t been mentioning it as often lately. When I identified myself as a Paleo lifestyle follower, I was constantly asked about it. I also felt that people were always watching me to see if what I was eating was “true” to the Paleo diet. If we were going to a friends for dinner I was often asked what I wanted to eat before hand. If we went out to eat with others I heard, “Is there anything you can even eat here?” It became something that was almost always the topic of discussion at dinner parties, get together, etc. and while most people were inquiring because they were truly were interested, I grew tired of my eating being the focus.

On top of all that, I started to drift further away from eating 90% Paleo and began eating things like Siggi’s yogurt (Grass-fed dairy), goat cheese and gluten-free crackers (Mary’s Gone Crackers), protein bars, Nutritional drinks and protein powders (Vega). My digestive system agreed with them and I felt okay incorporating them into my diet more often. However, non of these are considered Paleo foods so I felt very hypocritical telling my readers that I was eating a mostly Paleo diet when in fact it had become more of just a clean diet.
With all that said I still do eat a lot of Paleo foods but I’ve quite trying to title my diet as a mostly Paleo one and just tell people I eat a really clean diet.
Just for fun I thought I’d share with you some of what I do eat and some of what I avoid.
Veggies – lots of leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots (eat these like I’m a rabbit), celery, tomatoes, etc.
Grilled Peach Arugula Salad with Honey Cinnamon Walnuts
Protein – Lean proteins like chicken, fish (tuna, salmon, shrimp, cod), ground turkey, nitrate free turkey breast, Bilinski sausages, nitrate free turkey bacon and a new addition, some ground bison. Also eggs like they are going out of style!
Organic Turkey Burger topped with avocado and served with “No Potato” salad that taste just like the real deal!
Fats – Healthy ones of course! Avocado, Macadamia Nuts, Coconut, Almonds, pumpkin seeds, grass-fed butter, coconut oil, olive oil, and Ghee.
I’m loving these sprouted pumpkin seeds lately alone or mixed with some raw macadamia nuts and dried unsweetened cherries!
Some dairy – Siggi’s yogurt, some good goat cheese or blue cheese on occasion.
Siggi’s is from grass-fed cows and uses wonderful ingredients. It’s super thick, creamy and delicious!
Fruits in moderation – apples, berries, bananas, pears, etc.
Frozen bananas are a sweet treat I’ll munch on when I’m craving something cold. That or they are tossed into smoothies or banana frozen yogurt!
Other foods – Mary’s Gone Crackers, Protein bars (LARABAR, AMRAP, Quest), Protein Powders (Jay Robb or Tera’s Whey) and Vega Nutritional drinks. Oh, dark chocolate, wine and some beer too!
Wine, Mary’s Gone Crackers, cheese and fig jam.
Foods I avoid because they just don’t work for me – Legumes, most grains (although I will on occasion eat some and feel super puffy the following day), sugar, artificial sweeteners, (except some stevia) canola oil, vegetable oil, and most processed foods.
I enjoy eating this way right now and feel good doing so. Some weeks it might be more Paleo based, and some weeks it might not be. Either way I feel better right now not having to explain to others the hows and why’s of my eating. Maybe someday I’ll go back to a more strict Paleo lifestyle as I did feel pretty darn good while doing it. But for now I’m happy and that’s really all that matters right!?!
QUESTIONS –
- Do you try to maintain a certain way of eating?
- Do you ever feel like your food is being scrutinized by others?
- Have you tried eating Paleo? If so, did you enjoy it?
