As you know we just got back from a fun family vacation to Disneyland!
Rather than hop on a plane for a short, one hour flight, we decided to make it a 7 hour journey and drive. I used to live in Southern Cali so have done the drive several times before. While it’s not the most fun, it’s really not that bad. Especially when you are prepared with lots of magazines, games and healthy Paleo snacks!

I know when first starting my Paleo journey I found it hard to travel or dine outside of my home because I didn’t know what to eat. Now that it’s been over a year I feel like I’ve gotten my Paleo traveling food down pretty well.

Trail mix is an easy snack to pack and much easier to make on your own than the premade, often sugar loaded, mixes. I stock up on bulk raw nuts at Costco or Whole Foods then mix them with unsweetened coconut flakes and freeze dried blueberries.

LARABAR’s are a great Paleo friendly snack/treat to have on hand.

If you haven’t jumped on the seaweed train you should! It’s so good for you and this particular brand uses sesame oil or olive oil rather than canola and is pretty tasty!

I always have some form of nut butter packets with me for on the go healthy protein snacks. I often pack Artisana Coconut Oil or Coconut Butter packets to add to my coffee. It adds a little creaminess and healthy fats. I used to hate hard boiled eggs but now can’t get enough and they make a great snack or even meal when on the go. Tanka Grass-Fed Jerky is my newest obsession and is an awesome road trip snack!

While I don’t eat these all that often they are good to have on hand when you’re on a long car ride and need a little something to munch on. Also a good source of carbohydrates!

Just in case I don’t have protein or need something quick I like to have a packet of Grass-fed Whey Protein Powder. This brand is one of the best tasting and cleanest ones I’ve had. Even The Hubby said it was good and he’s pretty particular about his protein powders!

Sardines are definitely something that I’m still getting used to. The nutritional benefits out weigh the flavor (In my opinion) but these Wild Sardines in Marinara Sauce are actually pretty good. I mix them with a little avocado and sometimes plantain chips when I’m in need of a quick, healthy lunch.

These Power Snacks are one of The Love Nugget and my favorite little treats when on the road. I keep a bag in my car most the time for a yummy snack or pre-work out boost for my early morning crossfit days. They are loaded with chia seeds so tons of nutrients!

I surprisingly found these little compact squeeze bottles at t Old Navy a few weeks ago. I fill them with raw honey for my coffee if desired, apple cider vinegar and olive oil for my salads. The perfect size for traveling!

Carrot sticks and cherub tomatoes. Seriously can’t leave home without these bad boys! I almost always have a small cold pack with us with my favorite healthy snack. For this trip I also packed some Wholly Guacamole for dipping them into. Yum!

Last but not least, my beloved Kombucha. Great for road trips when you’re growing sick water or need a little something to wake you up a bit. Bubbly, naturally sweetened kombucha is perfect!
Having all these snacks on our trip really turned out to be a lifesaver. Not only on our drive there and back but in the park as well. Bringing in our owns snacks saved us money and gave us some healthier options to enjoy. I highly recommend it!
QUESTIONS –
- Do you pack road trip snacks?
- What’s your go-to road trip foods to eat?
- Do you play driving games? We often play the alphabet game finding the ABC’s on road signs. It’s fun but hard when driving through dead spots with no signs!
